Community, Advice, Support, Education (CASE)

A small community based charity in Brighton that aims to alleviate poverty through mutual aid and solidarity. It provides support for those on benefits and low incomes in one of the most deprived areas of Brighton. Run entirely by volunteers most of which are drawn from the local neighbourhood and know from their own personal experience the problems of living on little or no money. The centre is open five days a week and offers a space for people to socialise, have a chat and share their problems. The Edridge Fund of NAPO

THE EDRIDGE FUND of NAPO has been in existence since 1924 and has strong historic ties to the Trade Union movement. Its purpose is to provide financial assistance to staff in the Probation Service or Family Courts Service, suffering financial hardship, including those who are retired or currently unable to work. Recent changes in the Probation Service mean that the employees of the National Probation Service have become Civil Servants. However, the majority of staff in the Probation Service are employed by Community Rehabilitation Companies, all privately owned, but they remain classified as public servants by virtue of the nature of their work. Supporting research into fire fighter safety post Grenfell

Further to our financial support for the firefighters post Grenfell we were approached by the FBU for £3,600 to fund a project to improve the safety of firefighters in the course of their duty. The Coroner’s Report from the Oldham Street, Manchester fire and The Serious Accident Investigation into an incident at the Fire Brigade’s East Sussex Training Centre had both previously highlighted the fact that Firefighters and Fire & Rescue Services don’t fully recognise or understand the physiological impact of working in hot environments. Child Poverty Action Group sponsored by GMB and USDAW

In the spring of 2018 Child Poverty Action Group (CPAG) approached the TUUT Charitable Trust with regard to a project to improve the access to Universal Credit so that financial entitlements should be maximised for families on low incomes After introductions were brought about by TU Financial Management Services discussions were held with the GMB and USDAW resulting in a joint pilot project beginning in September 2018, financed by the TUUT Charitable Trust, with £20,000 over one year. No one in our community should have to go hungry

The TUUT Charitable Trust in association with Usdaw were pleased to offer a donation of £5,000 to support the work of the Foodbank. The North Liverpool Foodbank provides 3 days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them as being ‘In Crisis’. With 11 distribution centres and having fed over 7,000 people in 2017, they strongly believe that no one in their community should have to face going hungry. Celebrating 150 years of the TUC

The TUUT Charitable Trust donated £10,000 to the Mechanics Centre Trust in Manchester (home of the first TUC meeting) towards the creation of Banner Theatre’s production ‘Spirit of 1868’, and for the creation of educational support material for use in schools to celebrate 150 years of the TUC. The Spirit of 1868 production can be seen in the following towns during 2018:- Manchester, March, Norwich, Merthyr Tydfil, Belper, Huddersfield, Deeside and Coventry.

Funding helps keeps Runcorn Foodbank in the black for 2018

“Many thanks for covering our running costs for most of 2018” The TUUT Charitable Trust in association with Usdaw were pleased to offer a donation of £5,000 to support the work of the Runcorn & District Foodbank. “People are more than generous in their gifts of food throughout the year, but are surprised that we have running costs which in our case are expected to be over £6,000 in 2018. Timely Donations to fund new premises

Delegates at the 2014 GMB Conference in Nottingham were invited to support a local Foodbank by bringing in food or giving a cash donation during Conference week. This initiative was organised by the TUUT Charitable Trust and TU Fund Managers and supported by the local GMB-Midland & East Coast Region. At the end of Conference Nigel Webster of the Bestwood & Bulwell Foodbank   was extremely surprised to collect a £4,000 cheque from the TUUT Charitable Trust, plus over £200 cash raised by delegates and the bags of donated food waiting for him. TU Supports Medical Education and Aid in Kenya (MEAK)

Following the extremely successful MEAK golf days of recent years, the charity ran another day at Croham Hurst Golf Club on Thursday 19th June 2014. During the event, Marion Colverd, General Manager at TU Fund Managers (TUFM), presented Dee Belliere of MEAK, with a cheque for £12,000 which will be used in Kenya to support paediatric heart missions operating on children with heart disease, orthopaedic missions operating on patients with ‘long bone’ fractures and eye camps operating on people with cataracts. TUFM is wholly owned by the TUUT Charitable Trust and has over the years supported a vast range of worthy causes.
