Covid19 has caused major hardship for many families in Coventry!

The TUUT Charitable Trust were pleased to support the work of Coventry Foodbank in May with a donation of £1,250. This donation was one of four foodbanks signposted to us for help by the Birmingham & West Midlands Region of the GMB. A volunteer selects items for a food parcel        Hugh McNeill project manager of the Coventry Foodbank told us that more and more people are approaching them for help, finding themselves simply unable to make ends meet due to being furloughed, lack of working hours and low levels of pay. Most worrying is the long-term impact of Covid-19 on the most vulnerable in our society once we move beyond

Bolton is one of the areas in the North West receiving the highest number of asylum seekers with numbers comparable to the large cities of Manchester and Liverpool. The Destitution Project seeks to provide a safe environment in Bolton where asylum seekers and refugees can find friendship, food and practical help. Currently 40 volunteers and 3 part-time paid staff serve the needs of over 135 asylum seekers and refugees each week. Funding for maternity care in a Lebanon refugee camp supported the FBU

People living in the Lebanon refugee camps lack access to the most basic facilities and health services. The camps are recognised as having some of the most deplorable conditions in the world, with a much higher maternal mortality rate of 42.1 per 100,000 live births than those residing in camps in other countries. We recently received a request for funding from the organisation MAP (Medical Aid for Palestinians)  which was supported by the Fire Brigade Union. Our donation of £10,000 will support one midwife for 6 months, providing comprehensive treatment. For more information about the work of MAP go to www.MAP.org

Supporting Bexley Foodbank

“Bexley foodbank does a great job in feeding local residents and their children who would otherwise go hungry” The TUUT Charitable Trust in association with Old Bexley & Sidcup Labour Party were pleased to offer a donation of £5,000 to support the work of the Bexley Foodbank.  Since it was set up in 2012 requests from those in crisis have increased nearly seven-fold to 7,833 including 3,151 children. The sadness is that its existence should not be necessary, the benefits system should be made fit for purpose, more social housing made available and there should be secure, reasonable paid jobs rather than minimum wage zero hour contracts.
