Croydon Foodbank – Restoring dignity and reviving hope

The Croydon Foodbank team was delighted to have been chosen to receive a £4,000 donation from the TUUT Charitable Trust in January 2015. Carmen Elvy Administrator) and Kingsley Ofon (Project Manager) welcomed Marion Colverd (General Manager) of TU Fund Managers when she dropped in to present the cheque and find out a little more about the workings of the foodbank. They explained that the local communities particularly churches, schools and supermarkets were very active in collecting long-life foodstuffs for the foodparcels, cash donations however were thinner on the ground. Lloyds Banking Group to sell SWIP to Aberdeen Asset Management

After much press speculation, Lloyds Banking Group finally announced that it has agreed to sell SWIP to Aberdeen Asset Management.  The deal is expected to conclude by the end of the first quarter of 2014, subject to regulatory approval. Sources at SWIP confirm that having conducted a strategic review of investment management activities, the Group  has concluded that another owner would be better able to develop and commercialise further the strong capabilities that exist within SWIP. Support for Food Bank at Prospect Conference 2014

At Prospect the Union’s Conference in Glasgow this year, delegates were encouraged to visit the TU Fund Managers stand during the week and make a donation in support of the local Glasgow South West Food Bank part of the Trussell Trust. TU Fund Managers had already pledged £4,000 via its charity, the TUUT Charitable Trust and so, when the Reverend David Barr attended Conference on the final day, a total of over £4,500 was presented to him on behalf of the Food Bank. Musicians’ Union celebrates 120th Anniversary

The Musicians’ Union celebrated 120 years at its 35th Delegates Conference in Manchester on 23rd and 24th July. Over 100 members and invited guests joined with the MU’s Executive Committee and speakers from industry, education and Parliament at the Midland Hotel in Manchester, just a stone’s throw from where the Union was first established in 1893. The occasion was marked as 200 guests attended a reception at the Midland and were entertained by acts including the Parliamentary band, MP4.
